Magazine – MDH Today

THE NEED

In 2021, McDonough District Hospital came to the Write Place with a request: help relaunch its twice-yearly community magazine. The publication had gone dormant when the pandemic hit; the positive connection it provided between the hospital and its patients and friends had been missed.

Contributing to the need to relaunch the magazine was a broader refresh-and-renew campaign the hospital had undertaken.

A typical issue of the magazine shares news of the hospital, as well as spotlights on caregivers, staff, and innovative treatments. Each issue also features news from the McDonough District Hospital Foundation.

OUR APPROACH

At the start-up stage, the Write Place consulted on the name of the magazine and developed the color palette, font pairings, and overall design. The result? MDH Today, an inviting, inspiring, and engaging magazine that draws readers in and is synergistic with the hospital’s broader branding efforts.

When it’s time for a new issue, the Write Place meets with MDH to review content. Our editors proofread articles as needed, then our graphic designers lay out the cover and each page. They also create any needed infographics.

After layout, the magazine is back in the hands of our editors for a final proofread. Then the magazine goes to MDH, and the Write Place works through any revisions. Finally, the Write Place provides press-ready files to the printer!
