Oct 5, 2013

saxton-savvy-sojournerIn her new book, The Savvy Sojourner, Oskaloosa, Iowa, resident Jean Saxton shares expertise gained from 13 years as a shop owner, 33 years as an antiques dealer and many more as an avid antiquing enthusiast. The book is available at area shops, Painted Daisies in Oskaloosa and Beacon Antiques in Beacon.

Published by the Write Place, this part memoir, part antiquing guide is perfect for readers looking to start their own collections, collectors looking for ideas on how to incorporate their finds into their home décor or anyone who simply loves to hear about fun adventures. As Saxton writes, “I believe that no matter where you live, a true home includes a circle of love, family, friends and your own special furnishings.” The book focuses on these special furnishings—antiques—but contains a healthy dose of love, family and friends as well.

Saxton was born and raised in Ida Grove, Iowa, but lived in five states throughout her fifty-four-year marriage to Norval Saxton (Sax). Now widowed, she spends her time antiquing and decorating her retirement home in Oskaloosa that she shares with her rescue dog Sophie, as well as visiting with her friends, two children and seven grandchildren.
