Fifty years in the making: Mesa author publishes book on Christian spirituality

Nov 25, 2019

Nearly 50 years ago, author Warren Rushton of Mesa, Ariz., was hard at work at the San Francisco Conservative Baptist Theology Seminary, drafting his thesis on spiritual warfare and temptation. Today, Rushton is celebrating the publication of his first book, The Maturing Christian and His Enemies, which is a culmination of his many years of theological scholarship—including that 1972 thesis.

Regarding the scope of his work, Rushton explained, “God left us here on earth to live a life of faith. However, as my book outlines, there are three hindrances to living a Godly life: the world, the flesh, and the devil.” The Maturing Christian and His Enemies presents an exposition of the Scriptures that demonstrates how these three enemies confront believers and how Christians can overcome them.

“When we are tempted and have victory over those temptations, we become a more mature Christian,” said Rushton. “That is how the Lord allows us to become strong, steadfast, and, as 1 Corinthians 15:58 says, ‘always abounding in the work of the Lord.’”

Warren Rushton has a degree in mechanical engineering from the Indiana Institute of Technology. He later graduated from Omaha Baptist Bible College and obtained a Master of Divinity and a Master of Theology from the San Francisco Conservative Baptist Theology Seminary. Today, Rushton still works as a mechanical engineer. He teaches Bible classes and is also a Bible conference speaker. The Maturing Christian and His Enemies was published through the Write Place, and it is available as a print book and e-book from Amazon and BarnesandNoble.com.
